WATER COLOURS

Water-colour paint is an ancient form of colouring, dating perhaps to the cave paintings. Today, it is mostly done on paper, with the paints being translucent and luminous. This is the most prolific medium and is easy for an aspiring artist, even a child, to experiment with.

Here, a bunch of ‘Colourful Cosmos’ is set against a blended background.

To create the multi-colour effect, I have used ‘washes’ – coating the paper with a broad brush dipped in diluted paint.

This permits the colours to mix well and create a muted effect, and does not rob the flowers of their attention.

This silhouette of the Angkor Wat was created from a photograph taken during a visit to the temple.

Using water colours, I have tried to capture the luminous skyline that accentuates the sharp contours of the temple towers.
